I picked up an L39 some time back, with no magazine or sights. I found a AJP matchmaker front sight with a 1.0mm post. After much fruitless searching, I was unable to find a 4/47 or any sight calibrated for 7.62, so I settled on a PH5-C rear sight (303 calibrated). I happened to have a spare L39/L42 magazine I bought as a spare many years back, and fitted it to the rifle.
I took my L39 out two weeks ago to the local range. It was a sunny southern California day, with a minimum of heat mirage. Ammo was RG '84. After obtaining a zero at 100 yards, I took it out to 200 and fired the target pictured. fired a total of 28 rounds. I couldn't be happier considering the rifle is 45 years old and the ammo is 31 years old!
Also, the guy next to me was shooting a SOCOM M1Awith a 16 inch barrel fitted with a muzzle brake. Every time he touched that thing off, the fillings in my teeth rattled loose. I like to think I could shoot a little better without something obnoxious blazing away next to me.
cprhr- I think these are the 50 round trays you are referring to? I bought this box 10 years ago. It is RG L2A2 and was originally a 400 round container. I'm now down to my last 120 rounds. Once I shoot this stuff up, I'll start experimenting with handloads.
