I did a quick look of some of the early Springfield and Winchester stocks that were produced for the solid butt plates, some were even converted to use the trapdoor
buttplate.
The price of 5K seem very high
Mate, I have no clue. In fact I have no clue what the difference is between an M1Gas trap stock and a 'normal M1 stock.
All I know is that $5K is a lot of money for a stock of any sort. But then, I'm not an M1 collector.
There are two kinds of gas trap period stocks:
the first has a large over small hole in the end of the stock, early stocks had a drawing number by the round bottom pistol grip and they used a checkered butt plate without a trap door for cleaning items
the second type of gas trap stock had two equal sized holes in the end of the stock. narrower pistol grip and used checkered butt plate also without a trap door
both of these stock used the SA SPG cartouche without the crossed cannon stamp
