WWII? Leather and canvas portfolio bag? Trying to learn more
Anybody know what this is? It's from a friend who had some milsurp stuff kicking around. I've searched the interwebs to no avail thus far, trying to get an idea of when it's from and what it was for.

Looks like a simple field map and brief case.

It looks big from here. My guess is it might be a case for an artillery plotting board and sundry items. Again, that is only a guess.
Added: I just noticed the flapped long slot pocket shown in the photo of the back of the case. That might fit a long slide rule (The pre-electronic, pre-digital, manual, analog calculator - remember them?), or a long plotting rule.

^^^ exactly what i was thinking.
having 4 buckles also point to something heavy, aka a plotting table.

Do you think it's WWII vintage? I'd like to move this bag and another one like it along at an upcoming show, but have no idea as to valuation. Thanks!

That could be...I didn't take that into account, size. That makes it look like older too. Not like the stuff I was raised around. So, maybe WW2... If you label them tentatively, someone will come along and tell you for sure.
