I exported one to one of my (ex-Pom) Army friends in Australiaicon in the late 80's. Heavy or what....... They unbolt and almost flat-pack but the bolts are all BSW as I seem to remember. The man at the main GPO Depot in Reading where I collected it from gave me heaps of spare parts; bolts, glass, fixing bars and new glass with TELEPHONE at the top, etc etc. They are very evocative I have to agree but didn't remember the door being wood framed.

If you want/need an old phone that works let me know. Great project. Found out later that they were cast in Scotland (was it Elmbank Foundry ?) who also cast zillions of No36 hand grenade casings

I,m looking for a phone Peter, don't want to start getting anal about it, but I,m looking for the wall hung one with the chrome dial. or the complete unit which was a GPO 705, there are two on ebay but not paying hat much...... So much for the simple restoration.

The back board whats in there and the phone book shelf are related to the last push button type, after wiping some grime away, I found the address where it was located......... Broadoak Lane & Farlands Drive, East Didsbury, Manchester........

The Door outer frame is teak, fitted with the cast Iron insert, hinges are brass photo,s to follow....must be a reason behind it, I would think a cast frame would of been on the heavy side for the door ? or maybe just ease of maintenance ?

'Tonight my men and I have been through hell and back again, but the look on your faces when we let you out of the hall - we'd do it all again tomorrow.' Major Chris Keeble's words to Goose Green villagers on 29th May 1982 - 2 PARA
