I've heard that too, but somewhere have a link to what his movie buddy, Jack Elam had to say and he disputed it - also gave a couple of interesting stories. I'll try to find that link. I was lucky enough to see "To Hell and Back" in the local theater when I was about 10 years old, and it made a vivid and lasting impression on me. I remember seeing lots of his westerns, too. - Bob
