Maltby markings Q.

Morning gents.

Can anyone tell me what these markings are on a 1942 Maltby?

I have never seen any reference to these sort of marks.

I'm used to seeing the earlier type of inspection marks, (crowned letter/numbers, etc) and didn't recognise these.

BTW, how did you come on with your recent acquisitions?
Be nice if you could make it up here for our shoot at the end of June one year!

I think its only Maltby who used these circular inspection stamps, they are very clear on this example.

Richard: I'd like to know too. My own '42 Maltby (apparently original, no FTR) doesn't have those circular stamps, just a single typical inspection mark with a crown on the left receiver flat. On the other hand, I once owned a '43 BSA that had those marks (very similar to yours) apparently indicating a Maltby FTR. On another note, are you referring to the "Victorian Riflemans Shoot" in post #3? How does one go about signing up for that event? I have a nice Mark III Snider and a bunch of handloads I could bring along.

That's interesting, that a BSA FTR'd at Maltby has the same stamps.
My Maltby hasn't been FTR'd and has them. Odd your Maltby doesn't, as it's same year as mine.

The shoot is indeed the Victorian Rifleman Alberta shoot. If you go over to Brit. Militaria Forums , then "Outings and events" you will see it there.
There has been no fee or anything, and this is our 10th year. We do charge for supper on Saturday night though, but feed everyone from Friday eve to whenever they leave!
Sort of a donation route we have used, and hope we are not too deep in red when it's all over!
If you want to come, we will certainly look forward to seeing you!
The Colin (Freddo ) Clark Memorial shoot is shot at 150 yds with the Snider, but we do shoot other ranges, and last year shot to 700 yds with Snider , M-H and P '53.

Hope you can make it!..........We even sneak a few rounds in with L-E's & the odd oddity like M14's!!

Making it up there to the shoot is high on my bucket list Richard! With retirement looming and being a short hop over the mountains from Martyn, I'm might be able to finagle it one of these years soon. Fingers crossed as it always looks like a great deal of fun.

I've had a pretty good run of late...a nice 1914 LSA MkIII SMLE, a very nice Canadian MkIII Martini (one of the BC Garrison Artillery bunch), and a BSA Snider short rifle are among the haul...I've got a lot of loading to do. There are a couple of front stuffers in the mix too.
