Looks like a revision of a book called "The Secret Hunters" which discussed some exra-judicial justice being administered in the same way. Have a copy but can't find it at the moment. Not Sir Ranulph Fiennes book of the same title BTW. There's an account in the book of a ouija board being used to find the graves of some murdered air crew somewhere in France. The graves were where the board said they were, but the methodology was not officially approved!

Think its the same book Rob, I remember that bit quite well....
