Removing buttstock from BSA international mk2
Do these thing have a particular kind of stockbolt tool required? I cant see far enough into the buttstock to find out why i cant undo it

You need a great big screwdriver. A big flat tip...I used a tire iron the first time. Use a flashlight to look inside and you'll see how wide the tip should be. Big.

I cant tell what the hell is going on there, the screwdriver i use on the enfield butts doesn't fit whatever is down there and i cant make out the whole slotted head o the bolt. makes me think there might be something else stuffed in there as well

Hadnt thiught of a leather spacer, but whatever it is i think its stuck to the face of the bolt head

Try a long shank brace & bit wood bit as they have that screw section prior to the cutter engaging but I reckon that leather washer is rock hard and your going to have to dig it out bit by bit, also if you have a square shanked blade you can get a 12" shifter onto it for leverage if you can get to the slot the butt will come out even if the bolt wont. Then when you get it off you can figure how to remove the bolt from the butt as the remnants from the washer may cause the head to bind in the hole and tapping it out may put to much stress on the wrist cracking it. Extremes I know but these things can happen and then you really are in a pickle.
What if you melted some dubbin or have a liquid leather revitalizer soak the washer in that to soften it then dig it out just another angle.

So they have a leather spacer on top of the bolt head?? If so, why?

No but it's hard to say what's happened in the hundred plus years since it was made. There's something blocking you...I'd use the screwdriver and use a flashlight to see what's there. Then dig it out from the side. Wish I was closer, we'd have it sorted now...

So when the oiler is in there it does not rattle against the stock bolt the MKIII's No.4' are the same
