1920 Lithgow SMLE

Wow! $650-$900? I encounter SMLE's of all walks of life regularly at shows (Lithgows as well) for $300-$400 (Ohio/Kentucky area) the highest dollar Enfield's I encounter are Savage (because of the US collectors), the 4-T's of course and the .22 trainers. It seems like everything else gets lumped into the same $300-$400 range. Of course condition brings more and specialty rifles as well. I'm heading to the National Gun Day show tomorrow in Louisville. All this talk about Enfields makes me want to pick another one up tomorrow.

Cause some shitbag politican sold ours overseas, i imagine that rifle would fetch between 1000 and 1500 here

Buttstock makes no sense to me, appears to be QLD maple without a marking disc or Lithgow factory marks, very strange

The butt could have been replaced at some stage part of their past BFO my 1921 Lithgow is wearing a complete new top & bottom fore woods in the white never been sanded down and still rough as guts but I leave it as is, consensus was here that at some stage it had a dipping in a bluing tub but inconclusive assessments at this point and was un-fired by its WWII owner and un-fired by the gunny I brought it off whom had it for about 20 years it has been well looked after and still has traces of cosmoline in the action. I have had it for about 5 years and still not fired it and probably wont as it is a safe queen it came with a Lithgow 1921 Dbl stitch Scabbard & 1921 ' 07 Lithgow bayonet which has the rifles serial No. stamped on it.

I would find it very strange to see a buttstock devoid of any marking if it is QLD maple, the marking on those are so deep you would almost hit the stock bolt trying to sand them out

It may not have been changed in service but by some one outside the services who may have wanted a change or the original butt may have been broken, we are talking about a 1920's rifle that has been goodness knows where in its life if they could speak to us I am sure we would be dumbfounded at where it has been in its 97 years.
I have about 5 butt stocks un-marked NOS so in fitting them to anyone of my 303's there would be no markings what so ever they are stacked away in a gunbox in my shed along with other 303 woods just enough to keep my son supplied when he is 60 odd and still wanting to shoot them providing he learns about them.
They all like shooting them but come cleaning or reloading it is a very lonely virgil on the rod or press I can tell you that........

NGD in Louisville was a total bust. There weren't a half dozen No. 4's there, and of those one was a Santa Fe 1941 model and the other chopped. A 1945 LB (all matching, he said) with a 95L bolt. $850.00
A blonde stocked Mk II, sanded and shellacked for $750.00, a walk around, not on a table. Quite the bust for me. I hear next year both the S of S and NGD will be on the same day. Looks like they learned their lesson.
