Welcome to the Carbine forum. You can pretty much get an answer on anything carbine here. You might consider getting a book or two. There is a carbine site worth looking at. It is the online updated version of the Carbine Club.

Again, welcome.
Thank you, that's a great site

You better reconsider that, there's a massive thread about the problems they have and lack of being sorted out. Look at another carbine.
This! Soft bolts and cast soft receivers, etc. Also cost more than a good used USGI with its forged receiver that will still work 100 years from now!

Excellent point on the price, but what's the deal with these companies using **** steel? It's a disturbing trend

Doesn't matter about their cost cutting procedures. Just beware...

Please look very carefully and check out past threads on the "new" Inlands on this forum. I'd avoid them unless they get their act together and improve.

Thank you, I'm pretty much sold on the military ones. Now to figure out which one

Well, is it a shooter or what is it exactly you seek? Shooters can be had and still be a combat vet. That would be cheaper and easier.

From what I've seen online, it's my understanding that shooters are still reasonably priced so I wouldn't mind one of those. At this point, I can't see myself spending $2,000+ on a carbine, that would be strictly a collection piece.

Shooters should be much cheaper, you should be able to find one with a good barrel at reasonable price...close to you. Since you want a shooter, it's easy. Just condition matters.
