I tend to agree with your idea that it's been put together. How many rifling grooves in the barrel? - Bob

I apologize for the confusion, the part about integral gas cylinder was meant about your barrel. Sorry, I am unsure about your stock.
BTW, Can you take some more pictures of the barrel, mainly the barrel flat underneath and the area right behind the front sight.

I can't seem to use my photobucket on this lap top, so I have to copy and paste links.
Look here and you'll see your M marked stock:

Positively not a WRA gas cylinder.
Yours is swaged on not sure yet if it's a real GI barrel.

Interesting, cracked front sight ring. With no marks at all on the bottom of the barrel, I still think it's a replacement barrel. The who's of it escapes me though. Yes, someone can mark it easily. No it's not an integral gas cylinder.

Well, the crack has been there since I got it and it hasn't budged. I'm not worried about it. The barrel remains a mystery--thanks for your thoughts!

IF GI
With the gas cylinder being swaged it could have only been made by Inland, Rock Ola, Buffalo Arms, Saginaw or Brown Lipe Chapin (BI).
I don't recall how post war SA barrels were done.
It's just something about the style/shape of that cylinder and the way it butts againt the under flat/slide grooves area.
Can't recall the CC NL that had info about the shape of real cylinders vs fake ones. I'll look later but at this time I don't believe this is a real GI barrel.
My thoughts.. this one may very well be one of those Kahr Arms/ Auto Ordnance barrels that were being offered up with some having fake maker stamps a few years ago.
To the OP:
Hang tight someone will nail it down.
