When I saw in college in the late 1960's these rifles were $4.99 plus shipping. A guy in Selma, AL sold them in boxes of 5. I had a buddy who bought piles and found one decent bore. Years ago!

I must have gotten lucky. The bore in my rifle is in fantastic condition. When I refurbished the rifle last year I floated the barrel in the new stock and bedded the action as well. Here is a pic with Federal XM80 white box mil surp ammo:
