Why would you do that? The #5 sight is worth more than a #4 sight and you can get what you want...

I come across no5's all the time. Look me months to find a no4. Even the ebay prices are the other way round with the 4's going for quite a bit more than the 5's

Didn't know that, it's the other way round here. I had a #4 sight for a while and finally moved it on a cheap deal. You'll find the #4 and #5 sights aren't collomated the same, you probably know that. It's not like they just stopped the markings, it would need to be erased before remarking.

yeah. My idea was to have some kind of non permenant attachment that preserved the sight and was graduated in minutes rather than drop for mk7 ammo

I am a simple soul so this was my approach.
On the basis that what is right for one make/type of ammunition is not necessarily correct for another and the settings for my rifle when it had the Mk3 sight were more fiction than fact I did the following having fitted the No.5 sight.
Zero at 100yards (on mine it is 11 clicks from base/bottom) and work from that on PPU ammo and, luckily, is the same on my reloads.

That's about all I'd do too. Remarking might be a nightmare. I'd just zero and record. Meantime I'll keep an eye out for a #4 sight hereabouts, a Singer...

Jim.
Look at it this way...
(1) Are you likely to use it at more than 800 yards?
(2) If so it would be no trouble to mark the other graduations onto a #5 sight as there is room for them (on mine at least) and you wouldn't have to remove the other markings. Unlike the Mk3 sight the #5 is substantial and engraving or even stamping, more numbers on it shouldn't be an issue.
Good luck.
Geoff

Thing about that is, the markings aren't in the same place I think. Different barrel ,means different graduations...we had a thread with comparative pics here a while back...someone has both sights at hand I'm sure.

It went for £25. This must be the cheapest Fazakerly Singer sight I have seen for a long time. It was less than I paid for my jungle carbine sight.
