Kamloops Gun Show
Did the trip to the Kamloops Gun Show today and WOW prices on Lee Enfields were CRAZY.
Saw a nice Savage No4, nothing special but in very good condition...$965.00, guess I am stuck 5 years back or more as to me that was a price I wouldn't have considered for that gun.
Then just before leaving spotted a No 1 MKIII*, again in good condition but not near as good as a some I have..asked my son "guess how much", he said a thousand and I walked away shaking my head, it was $999.00. Never crossed my mind he would guess that high, so to many on here we are sitting on a fortune.
Sure happy I started acquiring my Lee Enfields about 8 years ago when they were expensive IMO but not in the stratosphere!
Did buy a AR target and stand for shooting in the woods, from size should be good out to 800 yards.

Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

I was going to attend that one for Friday night set up and Saturday full day of business but got an offer at home I couldn't refuse at the last minute. Never thought about arranging to meet some of the forumers here... I wouldn't want to try buying at one of those shows, I'd rather cobble together a parts gun if I was doing it or rely on blind luck in acquiring one off, say, CGN... I don't need to "Start" collecting at this point anyway, perhaps having one to shoot is enough. I have two vastly altered #5 carbines to shoot... I guess I can look back on the years when they still seemed expensive, relatively. $125CDN for a #5 LE was tons of cash when you were making $800 a month. But then my rent was only $125 for an apartment. A car was about $5000. The house I'm in would have cost me $50,000 and now it's nearly $500,000. It's all relative. Yes, you need to soul search before parting with a piece today, you'll never replace it.
Thanks for the report, I was wondering how it had gone.

Not just Lee Enfields were overprice IMO but many other milsurps as well. Pretty rough K31
's at $750.00, wood beat to where I wouldn't have bought it at half that price. Even the SKS market is seeing price increases. One vendor was pitching a matched SKS. not sure for how much but then showed the guy a much cheaper "forced match".
I remember buying my first No 5 for $25.00 plus tax at Curly's Antiques on Bernard Ave. in Kelowna in 1961. Sold it years later for $125.00 and thought I did well. Replaced it with two when I started to acquire LE's 7 years ago at $500.00 each. Wish I had foresight like hindsight.

Yes, Chilliwack was the same. Dewat Stens at $800...there were lots of #4 rifles. I didn't look at even ONE though. They could all have been parts guns. They were substantially priced. A Bren dewat and mount for $10,000 CDN, an Ingram dewat for $1500 CDN and an Uzi Dewat for $2500 CDN... Those are welded solid too guys, just so you all understand what we have now for dewats here.
Maybe I'll be up there next year to meet you and your son...have a chance to get together for a chat and a burger...

It would be good to meet. I get to Richmond at times, the issue is that stupid ferry one has to take to visit you.
