Those look like they might have too much give for my liking. To be honest, about 30 squares back I made some jaw covers from muffler tube. It seems to do the job, covers the aggressive diamonds in the jaws and is smooth metal so it doesn't give. I too have a big vise...second biggest they had at house of tools... I was hoping to get the big one like we had on the five ton wrecker front bumper. I think you'll be OK next try...

I always put a drill bit shank in the tube place so is no squishing of the spring tube hole slot

Aluminum ladder rail might work.
Have many of those on the racks, a few already cut 'Country Style' for odd pitch roofs or angled valley work.
Thanks Jim, thoughts are a coming.
A good nite to you!

I sold an original wrench and it had a cheater bar.
I don't know if back then they considered breaking apart a barrel/receiver that had been together 70+ years.

Hey Jim,
I'm missing that bottom notch that would catch the receivers trigger housing lug.
Big advantage having that!
All on hold right now, can barely stand up.... And I know better
Currently 2 problems,
#1 Want to get in done
#2 BY FAR THE WORSE: Having the wife giving me 'The Look'
Thx Guys
Charlie
P.S. No mention in the TM's about penetrating oil. Makes your point about us 70 years later

That's what I was eluding to, a snipe...it makes magic out of a tough situation.

I'm all for a cheater bar, but like I said I just can't be huffing on things.
A bottle jack makes it much easier.
Honestly though I can't say how much I appreciate ya'lls help and encouragement.
Hoppes #9 is flowing thru almost as fast as I can fill it. It has also pulled a ton of dirty soot/carbon with it as it washes down to a catch pan. That had to of been caked in the receiver and barrel threads.
Should have done this before my first attempt.
Thx,
Charlie-P777

We'll be watching. This should be easy next time. Take it easy until then, we'll be here...

It worries me that it "creaked" and moved 1/16" - then stopped. I hope the threads aren't galled - don't know if that's common on barrels and receivers, but I know from experience it is not fun to deal with. - Bob
