Vintage Sniper Match Rifles...

So I recently got my faux 1903a4 and it has been a blast to shoot. Now between that rifle and my original Lee-Enfield No.4 I'm wanting to get a faux Lee-Enfield No.4 sniper built. I was just curious if anyone has seen these rifles pop up in State-side vintage matches and how common they are and how they've done?

Also, just in general, I'm curious what people who compete in vintage sniper matches use, and why you chose that platform?

I'm not familiar with the various rules (I suspect they vary between clubs/organizations) but there may be restrictions on equipment. New optics are far superior to vintage, for example. It's probably a good idea to investigate before investing a lot of money.

The dominating rifles at the vintage sniper matches these days are the swede M/41b, and the 1903a1 for bolt action weapons. M1C's and D's for the semi-auto. I saw a rare no4T at last time in Anniston and it did quite well. I have also seen PU's, PEM's PE's, 1903a4's. Rare to see a k98k or jap snipers. the rules for weapons are listed in thecmp.org website. If anything, its worth the trip to watch all the teams shoot.

There are some youtube videos on them. Some good-some not.
We have a few guys in the club that shoot the Vintage Sniper match's (CMP).
They swear by the A1's with the 8 power scopes. A4's (2.5 power) will work at 300, but fall to the wayside at 600.
Ironsight has "tuned" 8X Unertl copies that most of them use.

I have shot the following rifles at 100 and 200 yards in matches . All of my rifles are original sniper rifles with original scopes . The CMP matches allow new barrels and scopes , that does change things . Listed in order of accuracy and 100 and 200 yard with three , 5-shot group averages . 1. Type 97 0.82 [ with 1 group the best ever of 0.62 ] - 2.82 2. M41 Swede 0.92 - 2.42 [ best 200 yard shooter ] 3. M-1903a4 1.09 - 4.22 [ the little scope hurts ] 4. M-91/30 1.18 - 3.37 5. K98k 1.22 - 3.82 6. Type 99 1.42 3.98 7. VZ-24 2.35 - 5.84 8. Gew-71 2.97 - 10 + [ has a 18 " long 1/2" dia 2x scope with no adjustments and it is foggy ] 9. no4 mk1 3.38 - 8.8 [ always has a few flyers , and the two other local rifle do the same ] . All rifle were shot with good handloads developed for the rifles .

Don't be put off- they can do much better than that!

get on to thecmp.org website its not the most friendly website but you have to set up a CMP registration number. then you can go to previous match play out of camp perry and anniston and view the teams with the rifles used. this will give you just about the best idea of what folks are using and how they do with them. I personally think the no4T would put up a nice showing at these games if you are good at shooting. Most folks believe this rifle will stand up to any test in comparison to any other rifle.
