Dear Peter, that's exactly the point. Every time I load a new round, the first pull is kind of rough until it gets to the second. If I release the trigger and do it again, the first pull is wonderfully smooth.
One of these days I'll take down the whole rifle and look at this with some attention.

I think once you do that, it'll be clear to you. I'd be using my close up lookers for that...either it's abraised or it's been messed with.
