I don't think he wants the leather scabbard. I know people local that might though, I'll take note of those.

Thanks for the information chaps. Yes it's the plastic type scabbard that I want for the 1960s M1917 bayo. I won't alter the U.S. icon

N. MK1 scabbard because if I do a correct M1917 scabbard will show up immediately afterwards. The leather 1907 scabbard kits are a good price for original items because the repros cost £20 each here and originals are getting harder to find in the U.K..

I think you will find that the M1917 is actually longer than your USN MK1 scabbard.

They look to be round about the same length, the scabbard and bayonet. The way that I would have converted it, I would have retained the pegs and made a packing shim to slip over the pegs and the mouth-piece. The only actual alteration would be to open out the mouth-piece a fraction on the width. Doing it this way you would gain a small amount of length equal to the height of the pegs as well as making the conversion reversible should the correct one turn up. I'm not planning to bother at the moment because I still hope to get the correct item. If I can lay my hands on a reproduction long 1905 plastic scabbard I may try some more drastic alterations.
