"M41b" Swedish "Sniper".
OK. So, here in UK
a genuine M41b sniper would seem to be in the order of about £3000; if you can find one.
I have been offered what appears, on the face of it, to be the next best thing. It is an M96 long rifle which has had a genuine ex Swedish
military Ajak 4x90 scope and mount fitted, which were sourced from Sweden when such things were available (approx 2002). The mount has been professionally fitted by a well known and respected gunsmith, who has also bent the bolt handle down in the manner of the original sniper rifles. Also included is a replica of the leather cheek pad used by the Swedes, made by Moore Leather (£85, at current price), and a set of leather scope caps. The underside of the barrel has been discretely marked so that it is apparent that it is an assembled package, rather than the real deal.
The rifle itself is not a fully matching unit, in that the barrel bands and cleaning rod are replacements, all other components are matching numbers.
The vendor has sent me some pics of the outfit, which looks gorgeous, and I can view the rifle before I buy.
I am more than tempted by this rifle, in fact, I'll probably buy it, but it won't be cheap.
He has mentioned a price to me and it is a lot cheaper than a "real" one. I'll not mention what that price is, but, what would be a fair price for such a rifle?

Don't know about prices in the UK
but in the U.S. and A., depending on quality of a real original M41/b, one would expect 2000-3500. Oddly, someone on GB recently bought one for 7k, although no one who watched the auction believes the sale will go through. For a mock up swedish sniper..... sum of the parts, the ajack scope and mount, if real, would be 1500$ plus. the rifle would be 500$. The gunsmithing work is whatever he says it is but can be negotiated. I just found one of these for someone a few months ago and it was 850 bucks... not a real ajack or mount but weaver and accumounts mount. shoots well. I personally would not like a made up M41/b, but if you can't find one, it would be better than nothing. andy

Andy. It's "the sum of the parts" which has me tempted on this. The Accu-mounts offering doesn't get very good press, from what I can see, because of the ammount of additional work required to make the base fit the rifle. Having the genuine article fitted greatly enhances the package.

Hmmmm? Over here I would also estimate on "the sum of the parts". For 500 I would expect to buy a 100%-matching M96, not a "nearly all-matching" one. But an enormous plus for an original Ajack.
So something like 1500 Euros plus to 2000, the plus depending on how good the whole assembly really is. For that kind of money, you really, really need to arrange a test firing beforehand, even if it means a long drive. And if you've got more than 2k to spend on a made-up sniper, then you are in the price class where you can start thinking about saving up for a 100% original. But caution - a friend has an original Swedish
sniper, and having been fairly well used, it does not shoot as well as his normal M96, which probably had a lot fewer rounds put through it. If you are really keen on accurate shooting, then the made-up one may be a better choice.

Funny how the expression "shill bidding" comes to mind. Look out to see if it comes round again in a few months!

Yes I have seen prices higher on some nice weapons but the Swede sniper that went was clearly ridiculous. And by 3 people none the less.
Harry Mac, you don't have to have an ajack... it's nice but not key if used for shooting. If I knew the task of finding a real Swede sniper was too hard, I would be tempted to build one up myself and not use a prestige m96 example but a mix master with a great barrel. There are other optic mount options and I have seen the accumounts used a lot at the CMP
games in Anniston Al. They work but the screws are soft so you have to be careful. That route would be significantly cheaper. Rifle max 500, weaver k4 100, mount, 200-300 (eBay or new) and a good machinist Keep eyes on eBay, or other sites. They have optic packages frequently

Take that gunbroker auction of $7k with a grain of salt. Seller is running some sort of shill scam. He has a FN-49 low number Lux that he sold for $2,500 4 months ago relisted and it is at $5,025. A Queen Julianna Mauser that he says the buyer didn't pay the first time it sold at $1,600 relisted now too. He also sold a K98k
Dot44 for $4,000+ that had issues. My guess it is some kind of scam to artificially inflate prices to then claim non paying bidder and sell them on his own. Look at the bidders. All members for a couple years with just one transaction.
