I think the answer maybe quite simple now I can see the whole rifle. It was not uncommon for US service folks to have Japaneseicon and Germanicon engravers do work on US servicemen's sporting rifles after WWII. Where there was a citrical shortage of work by the engravers. I believe the Japanese (sic) engraver just signed his work. Just my thoughts.

A Japaneseicon engraver signed his work with a non-Japanese name? Why engrave it, in the largest/grandest way, into the barrel when there's no other engraving on the barrel?

That is good to know, however. It would make sense for Japanese and Germanicon engravers to be working on personal servicemen rifles immediately after the war.
