That part, I do not know. Skennertonicon's book only mentions the lack of bayonet lugs; nothing about the weight of the 7.62 barrel. I have never pulled the wood off this rifle for fear of upsetting the bedding. What I do know is the barrel is free floated at the muzzle, and is glass-bedded around the action.
