I bought this lot of Chests this afternoon as part of the Poulin's auction of the Bob Faris collection.

One of the chests matches a rifle I bought last April.

Let me know if you purchased a T or L42 in the April or October auctions and I'll work to see if I've got your transit chest.

I am only interested in 1 of the 13 chests, the rest need to be sold. I'd really like to find the guys who have the rifles which match these chests.

If I can't find the rifle owners, or the owners have no interest in the chests, I'll sell them off to the rest of everyone.

As far as what they're worth, I don't know. The one which goes with my LB T was worth an awful lot to me. But at the end of the day, I just want to make the money back.

I think its admirable of you to attempt to locate the people who purchased the rifles that went with the cases. I flabbergasted the rifles were not sold with the cases in the first place. You would think that an auction house would know that the rifles should be sold with them and would actually demand a higher price. I've only read about the cases here in the forum but never knew how much one would cost or if a normal blue collar Joe, could even afford one.

I would love to see pictures of the inside and how they work. One of the guys on the forum made one for his rifle so I've seen that would be cool to see a real one.

Good for you!!! Glad you were able to marry up your rifle finally with the matching/proper chest!!! Cost you an arm and two legs but hopefully others will step forward and claim the others to mate things up.
I wanted the Sterling Conversion No4 but the internet at our mining camp in the bush stopped me from being able to submit a bid.

So, your the one of the guys that out bid me!! (I was out bid early) I hung around for an extra 2 hours to get these as I thought they would go "cheap" as shipping would be considerable. For those interested here are the s/n on the chests I recorded, not all had rifle information on them. FYI, the Canadian chest was in great shape with the exception of the handles, glad you reunited.

An international consortium (myself from Canada and an American collector ;-) were after this “sleeper” lot of transit chests - 6 L42A1, 5 British No.15 Mk.I, 1 Canadian No.15 Mk. I and 1 Canadian Chest for the C No.7 22” MK.I.

Having bought a Long Branch sniper rifle (80L8006) from Poulin’s in the Spring of 2017, I was hoping that the Canadian Chest was numbered to it but even if not, it would still be correct as the chests were usually assigned and marked temporarily. I had also recently given up the Canadian Chest No.15 Mk.I that had come with my matching 90Lxxxx sniper as part of a deal to get a rare C No.67 Mk.I Sniper Scope which was correct for 80L8006. The experimental R.E.L. Gimbal 3.5X Sniper Scope and bracket that came on 80L8006 from Poulin’s has moved over to my experimental Long Branch Scout Sniper’s Rifle. At least it is good to know that the Canadian chest is rejoining it’s Long Branch sniper rifle. To the new owner - the Canadian leather handles differ slightly from the British made examples. They are folded the same but then are stitched along both edges.

I had to type this message twice. While typing the first draft (which got lost) the ferry crew advised that there was a small pod of Killer Whales (Orcas) that we would be passing. This is the first time in 40 years of travelling on B.C. Ferries that I have seen Killer Whales. Naturally on this trip I did not have my usual Nikon Camera with zoom lens. I felt like a sniper with a target of opportunity at 300 yards and only having a handgun (iPhone in this case)!

According to the original files of the Faris collection the following rifles were with transit chests:
LB No. 4 T, 1944, #68L3246 (mismatching chest)
BSA No. 4 T, 1945, #T39788 (with transit chest No. 15)
BSA No. 4 T, 1945, #V38773 (with matching numbers chest and canvas case)
BSA No. 4 T, 1945, #T32281 (with transit chest and telescope case)
Maltby L42A1, 1977, #M8824 (with chest)
Long Branch .22 No. 4 Mk.I*, Toolroom sample (with unnumbered early Long Branch Chest)

There might be transit chests with other rifles too, but this is what I was able to find. If any from the above matches any of the chests and had not yet been sold, they might come up for auction in the future.

Edit: were the L42A1 rifles sold with the metal scope cans? I've found a small list of scope cans from the Faris collection too. Not sure if they sold them with the rifles or if a batch of metal scope cans will be put up for sale in the next auction...

Edit2: Colin, was your CNo.67 sniper with scope mount or scope? I've just noticed a spare No. 67 bracket too, might also turn up for sale.

Edit3: Faris collection included L42A1 #T32281, #G33072 (converted No. 4 Mk.I(T)), #50L0027 (again converted No.4 Mk.I(T)), #U36397, #M8824, #G22742. With the No. 4 T's it included #A0827, #13C7446, #68L3246, #90L8217, #T39788, #V38773, #E35678, #80L8006 (with the No. 67 scope), #02911 (Indian rework), #AT0291 (7.62mm rework), #V38563, #A0919. Is any of those serial numbers matching to either of your chests?
