Done a couple of recoveries on M113's on their lids, makes me wonder how they can be so stupid.
But saying that, I guess those recoveries were much easier than the submerged APC'S, hard to tell those young blokes they are not submarines.
Which reminds me of one young bloke I had on a M113A1 driving course, we called him Kamikazi, he only new one speed....flat out.
We used to follow nose to tail on the bush tracks, a few turns and dips, the odd knife edge........anyway, back to this bloke.
He would lag back until he could get up a bit of pace to catch up, one track was down a slight slope, with a slight kink in the track around a large stump, well Kamikazi wound her up down this slope, realized he couldn't make the turn, overcorrected and found himself perfectly balanced on this great bloody stump.
Tracks sagging and flogging fresh air six inches off the ground, you could push the APC around in circles with one hand.......well that's the closest I've ever been to wetting myself outside of combat situations........not with fear, but bloody laughter.
It only took a nudge with another track to get it off again, poor bugger, I still give him curry at every old boys gathering and reunion.
