The beginning of the M1/M14
section has all the publications for this weapon available to you to read...open one and find the appropriate for stripping and assembling... https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=4328
You can get ball ammo in the US and that's probably what you should obtain to avoid further issues...specially here...

Winchester stock characteristics
To identify most Winchester stocks (exception early WRA RS stocks from early 1941) you need to check the following:
photo shows the curve of the pistol grip which is Winchester
The inside machine cut on the right side of the inside channel
The notch inside the trigger guard recess
these are features unique to Winchester stocks from WW2
the SA GAW stamp is a WW2 rebuild stamp on this Winchester stock

CMP has been out of HXP for several months now unfortunately.

Thank you for the information, I will look into purchasing some ammunition.
Not sure when I'll get around to investigating the stock. Hopefully around winter break if I can find some free time.
Is anyone able to glean some date information from the serial number on the bolt or receiver? I am curious to know when parts of this rifle were made.
