Maybe the firer in the photo is just about to slip his ear defenders on but I can't seem to see them handy.

Maybe he's just deaf as a post?

I did hear a story once that the old boys who worked in the testing sheds at Enfield were all "hearing impaired", and they had, over time, developed their own sign language.
Anybody else heard that?
