Two Old Japanese Unusual Sportered Rifles
First is a heavily engraved Type 99, custom made stock, engraved trigger guard, 2/3 barrel engraved with silver inlaid elk head, receiver engraved and custom turn down bolt. Cal 7.7
Second is a Type 38 with a cut-down stock and receiver is fitted with a Remington 8mm Mauser barrel with match grade chamber, and custom front and rear sights. I can literally shoot the eyes out of fleas at 100 yards. (If I could just find them only just to prove it!) LoL
Pictures will come soon.

A friend, at gun show, told me that after WWII the Japanese
were engraving T38 and T99's for the civilian export market. Does anyone have any information on that information? (Fact, fiction, myth or wishful thinking.)

LX, If you can find James Meek's "The Art of Engraving" you will find some information and pictures on an Arisaka
that is engraved in a traditional Japanese manner. It is complete with Dragons etc. It also mentions the Engravers in Tokyo of which you speak. The engraving on your rifle looks to be done stadeside based on the scroll style. Salt Flat.

The T38 didn't have a butt plate so I put a French
MAS-36 slip on and it really fits nice and works well.
