Questions about a Webley MK IV .455
A friend sold me a nice MK IV .455 this week.
It was cut for .45 and has replacement grips, but otherwise looks all original ... still has nice original finish. Serial number in in the 105,XXX range. Anyone have an idea where this one would fall in production date range between 1899 and 1913?
Thanks,
John

I have a copy of records released by W&S [Webley & Scott Archives] that says:
"26 Manufacture Books .22rf .32 .38 Revolvers (Mark III; Mark III star & Mark IV)
[Line] (9) Mark IV revolvers (1943- 1943) numbers 104600- 114699"
I am new here, so I hope I am not out of line- or completely wrong- as I am not a Webly expert. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Did you mean to type Mk VI? If so, the date should be marked on the left side, below the cylinder.

Thanks! This is the MK IV .455 ... I believe they were only made from 1899-1913. The MK IV .38 is a different gun.

If your Mk IV has been cut to accept .45acp with half moon clips, I would suggest not using factory ammo. Your pistol was designed for black powder. The Mk V and Mk VI were a heavier construction with thicker cylinder walls and were made for smokeless, even then, I would be concerned about using full spec loads.

Measure the cylinder, It could be a MK V ot VI one that has been fitted.
should measure 17.45 inch if it is a MK V or VI. smaller for the origional MK IV.
