Found my Grandfathers World War 2 duffel bag yesterday

I recently inherited my Grandparent's farm. Yesterday I was checking on the house, and decided to check the storage building over the cellar. I found my Grandpa's World War 2 duffel bag he brought home from Europe in it. He's the big reason I'm such a big fan of history, and of old battle rifles.

I spent a lot of time on my Grandparent's farm when I was a kid, and lived with them when I was a teenager. Gramps worked hard to instill some of his best traits in me. Be a man of your word, help your friends and neighbors, and above all to have a good work ethic and make your own way by the sweat of your brow, because in the end you'll appreciate it that much more. He was a hell of a man, and an awesome Grandpa.

It just came out of the washing machine, and will be going on to permanent display in my man cave.

That's great to find your Grandfather's kit bag. He sound's like a great man too. Good advice he gave you. Similar to the advice I got from my Father when I was a kid.

Sad that it seems these day's; fewer people actually pass on such good advice!

I'm s great when you find stuff. When I got my grandfathers foot locker from WWII it was amazing to see stuff that had not seen light for years

I was looking through my field gear from OIF I and found my map case which I had not seen or even remember. Inside was the map of our route leaving Iraq and the CEOI with a list of our call signs, vehicles # and the FRAGO on the Route march to the Kuwait border and of course plenty of dust. I guess in the future my grandsons will be going through Grandpop's Army stuff and find the same. I will leave this snapshot of that time for my grandsons to find at a future date.

Found something else yesterday, and thought I would share. My uncle was cleaning the the upstairs attic closet in the house, and found a couple of his shirts so I thought I would share a picture of one of them. The other shirt has pants to match, was dark green, and reminded me of enlisted soldiers dress clothes. I was so stoked I forgot to take pictures of the green outfit.

I figure some more things are going to turn up. The attic closet is a walk through closet, and it is stuffed with years of accumulated things.

I knew he was in Co. B, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division, so it was cool to see the emblems on his shirt.

The stripes are T/5, Technician 5th grade, or "tech corporal". The flaming sword on right shoulder is of course for the 63rd Inf. Div. On the left, the other flaming sword on blue background was for SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force), Gen. Eisenhower's D-day Europe invasion & liberation forces.

It's really great to have original WW2 artifacts, but it's much better when you know the person & better yet when you are related to them. My Uncle was a B-17 bombardier with the 8th AAF, and he gave me all of his uniforms & gear and I feel very privileged. Now I wonder who I can pass it on to? Who will care as much as I do? Will it all stay together, or be sold off piece by piece ?

When you get older you will realize your 'things' own you as much as you own them. Who will care as much about them and for them as you do. Young people only seen to care for their toys today.

Yes and when the power goes out what of their toys then, they run around moaning because they cannot be on facebook or tinder or whatever game their are playing.
Me I am materialistic but who will care for my fathers medals or from my mothers side the 10th ALH & 25th LH Hat/Collar badges! Plus all the other gear accumulated on a 45 year still going collection journey on conflict related gear & books........
