Cyclic Round

Had this for a while it is 30mm x 170mm what cannon would fire this one a Rarden! I do not think it is from a GAU. These are used to check the cycling of the weapon and I gather feeding & the ejection of the spent rounds the previous owner spay painted it a candy green colour which I have stripped off it looked horrid the nose fuse comes out but the rest the internal threads are stripped.
Could some one please advise me as to the colour scheme the round would wear whilst in service so I can paint it up.

Yes, it looks like the Rarden Cannon from the Scimitar armored veh... What about the green color on the base? Isn't that the original paint? Bushmaster cases are painted a green like that, I have a couple originals. Wish I'd found that one, I'm stuck with a crappy original case and projectile.

You know Jim that may have been its colour never really twigged as the rest of the round was painted in an iridescent green, well that will take care of the case to match that one but what colour the projectile would that have been what I call Duck Egg Blue.
I think I got this one off flea bay with a complete 40mm painted the same bloody green though cannot remember what they cost me in the end but it was not cheap........

It may have been blued or parkerized black...just steel. Yes, the base matches your 35X228 case if you check...I think...

Here is what I found on a 30mm collectors page got some pretty interesting info on 30mm stuff.

Of the pictures of the rounds together the 30 x 170 and it is hard to tell as the Rarden has a APDS on it and brass cased where as the KCB is painted steel with deep blue projie & white fuse.
But the latter looks very close then so does the Rarden I would need a further breakdown of case dimensions like neck length/shoulder angle it has the width of case & rim but its the shoulder I think that is different as the 2 are not interchangeable.

This was a Hispano-Suiza development from the 1950s, but has a connection to an earlier round as the base dimensions are exactly the same as the Hotchkiss 25x163, surely not a coincidence. The gun was originally known as the HS-831 but was renamed the Oerlikon KCB when the companies merged around 1970. It has exclusively been used in the anti-aircraft role, in both land-based and naval mountings. The cartridge cases were originally of brass but these are now rare, and steel cases are much more common.

"In the late 1960s the case design was adopted for the British Army's Rarden AFV cannon, but the material reverted to brass. Rarden and KCB ammunition are not qualified as interchangeable. The Rarden round shown above has an APDS projectile."

It did give the Joules of energy at the muzzle which equated as thus = 207,000 Joules which worked out to 154,888.051 Ft/Lb's of M.E now that will ruin your day even at 2000yds

I watched the Rarden at a bit less than that distance and it was like a sewing machine needle for accuracy...a straight line of tracer. Wish I'd known how scarce the projectiles were after, I'd have collected a sandbag full. I've only ever seen one.

Lucky I have one then...cost me a WW2 British jump helmet back in about '80. Mine is a case with projectile though...
