Your picture makes it hard to tell that the right rear magwall has been cut back, prolly cause of the overhead view. But it can be seen that the inside area forward of the trigger has been recessed for the 'Be Happy' parts. So clearly a M2 housing, like you said.

But again... Why the M2 Housing ? I see no records of sales or offerings of M2 style carbines to the public... ?
Could these have been made as a 1 size/type works for all ? To keep casting quick and easy to produce ?
I don't know, Maybe a possibility that some were made for law enforcement and some to supply Ollie's boys down in the jungle...
