The problem with slings is a lot of different types were used over the years and as they are leather and have a tendency to rot if not stored properly they get separated from the rifles.
To the best of my knowledge, that sling is not Italian. It looks like a Spanish Mauser sling for the 1916 model.
The most correct Italian sling for the M1891 will not have a buckle. It will have two brass or steel studs (similar to what you see at the bottom of the above sling). The lower end will have a short loop, the upper end will have a longer loop that you can adjust by moving the stud to different holes. Other acceptable slings would include a later type buckle sling with "ears" and a center pin, these are more commonly seen on TS and other shorter models. And for WWII, the German K98style sling minus the keeper.
The early most proper sling is a close copy of the Veterli sling, so if you can find a photo of that, it will help you out in looking for one.Information
