Assembed a 1917 Eddystone from Parts

Hi

I had been looking for another 1917. Found a fairly good barreled receiver. 1-18 R on an Eddystone action.



Can anyone help with the various marks on the bottom of the receiver.



Cleaned it up and re-blued the rack rash. Gathered the rest of the parts from all over the place. Six different sources I think. Still looking for a mil-surp stock. Stumbled across a nice fitting sporter for the price of a box of ammo, so I will us it until the right stock comes along.



The bolt I found is an R. It did not come with the receiver. But seems to function fine. (Not been to the range yet, thought). I have never seen a highly polished bolt with a polished black shroud on the rear. Kind of cool looking. Was this a parade issue or mod?



I wanted a 1917 with uncut barrel and original sights. This is it.



Just need the right wood for the right price.

Hard to say without it in hand but your bolt looks to be chromed. I bought a box of M1917 bolts years ago. Several of them were hard chromed. I still have one of them in the parts box. Stocks are out there but the prices have sure gone up. Did it head space. If so you should have a shooter. Chasing down the parts is half the fun.

I bought a small pile of M1917 parts from Springfield Sporters a few years back. Sad to say the owner, Russell, suffered a stroke recently and the store is currently closed. Post what you still need somebody here will help you out.

That's all new to me. It appears to cock on close. However the striker assy comes rearward slightly out of the bolt on bolt opening, then it goes back in as the bolt is pulled rearward. Actual full cocking only occurs on bolt close. Is there something different on the receiver for the speed lock arrangement?

And does the safety operate differently? Thanks. Still learning a lot about this.

If it takes any extra force to put the bolt into battery on an empty chamber then its cock on closing. If it slides fully into battery with the bolt handle up on an empty chamber then its cock on opening.
The speed lock works with the camming on the rear of the bolt. The safety should work as normal cocked and closed but it doesn't have the provision for the safety to lock the bolt slightly open. - Bill
