Krag Sporter Front Sight

The Krag sporter I have is equipped with a Lyman front sight and a Pacific peep sight on the rear. At 100 yards the rifle shoots slightly high with the rear sight lowered as far as it can go. The front sight blade is a Lyman 31 JA which is .39 inches tall. Any recommendations on how tall to go? The next steps (at least in Lyman) are .41, .445 and .5. Edit - For whatever it's worth, 200 yards is the longest I would ever expect to be shooting this rifle.

Kind of hard...what ammo, it makes a difference. That difference will be on the spot, not the same between your rifle and mine. With a peep though, you can bring it on if the sight is high and it'll just be more comfortable to sight because it's higher...

I've been using Winchester 180 grain Power Point.

I think I started over thinking this, and now I'm probably under thinking it. Giving it some thought, it seems if I raise the front sight .055 inches (by going to a .445 sight), and raise the rear sight adjustment by the same amount, I should be shooting (assuming the same ammo) almost exactly the same (.055" lower than before), and I'll have a very small amount of room (.055") added on to the low end of my rear sight adjustment. As I said, I'm probably under thinking it. What am I missing?

You are...I'd just make a front blade out of a dime and file it down until correct...lap it flat on a stone...

Thanks for the idea, but too much 'bling' for my taste. If I was going that route I'd use a penny. It's cheaper and probably easier to work.

I'd use a penny.

Wouldn't be as close as original sights though... I did make one in past out of flat steel stock though.

At 100 yards, how high is your group above the point of aim?

At 50 yards, where is the group in relation to point of aim?

You may want to try some shots at 200 yards to get an idea of your rifle's trajectory with existing sights.
