I have a similar beast. 1901 Erfurt transitional, EWB, and duffle cut as well. Came back from France with a medical officer.

When I bought it at the LGS I tried to ask a little bit more of it's origins seeing it was a duffle cut. But the guy didn't seem to know what I was really asking about and just said it was at the shop for a month (surprising as it is a bigger store and they get plenty of weapons enthusiasts especially with a lower price tag). I felt if asked any more I could just bother the original owner's privacy so I left it at that.
