The butt-plates are made from an aluminium alloy of a composition unknown to me. Any hints on whether it was related to mazakicon or something completely different.

They were "anodized" at the manufacturer's plant, but, as the alloy is not pure aluminium or one of the alloys that can be nicely anodized, they were usually given a coat of black paint. This worked about as well as expected, so there was little effort made to keep them "black".

I would be very loath to try to "parkerize" one, for fear of it dissolving in the tank.

Whatever material it was, it could survive an astonishing amount of "square-bashing" and rough handling in the bush. Using the butt-plate as the striking end of a hammer to drive in short star-pickets was a sure way to break them, however.

True! And it will kill the salts at the same time. Yes, an anodizing like you do with an AR upper or lower.

My previous car life centered around MG's too. The last was an MGB GT V8. A rocket sleigh on wheels! It now lives in Tassie, my old pal from 7RAR bought it

I nearly bought one recently in beautiful Britishicon Racing green, they are based near me with their Owners Club!!
So sad when you see the new MGZS SUV, they are so generic there is nothing exciting about them anymore they have truly lost it as a brand until they come back to British designs and not Japaneseicon styling IMHO

I have a feeling that they only lease the MG name, I think it still belongs to BMW

They copy anything as I found out when they copied my drill.
On one hand they execute those who copy stuff like that, which makes its way into their Government and on the other, they clearly make an exact copy and can see no wrong and totally deny it. The below is a good example of that for a portion of the price. Would I want to own it, I know how the MD of Rolls felt, been there....................bloody fuming and nothing you can do about it??
