Yes, that could have been nothing less than a nightmare. The ship that was so secret it "didn't exist" on paper...

The story will raise the hair on your neck. Or any other close to death event that these guys tell. Thank God for folks who bare the unbearable! As I always say; thank you for your service!

Coincidentally, I was in a bookstore on Saturday morning and the book titled USS Indianapolis was on display, front and centre, just inside the front door.

The ship did exist on paper it was her route & time of departure and return that was ultra secret thats why the poor SOB's floated for so long, kudus to the Catalina pilot who used his plane as a giant raft for as my of the survivors that could fit and staying on the waves.
I've read the book twice over the years "Abandon Ship" been a fair while now, but harrowing tales of the torpedo's hitting, those god awful days for the survivors covered in fuel oil, baked by the sun, their life jackets became very troublesome as the kapok swelled and many could not get the knots undone they were tightened so much, blokes going mad diving down & coming up saying the ship is just underneath them and there is plenty of water there till they did not surface anymore.
Then the sharks found them.........................
