We only had Mk3 Brens and L4A2's in Malaya plus the odd L4A1 that you'd see kicking around. When the Battalions went back to Oz it was back to Mk1's and 2's, leaving the UK issue L4's for the next battalion and so on. But in 68/9 or so, it was all M60. You can imagine the disappointment after being brought up with the GPMG/L7/FN-MAG!

I can. When I went to Australia in '77 it was all M60s except when we contacted an armoured unit in the field. There was a 7.62 Bren, unknown to me what mark or model but I wanted to try that one out...since I was the machine gunner anyway. Then I had to wait until the end '80s to get the MAG in form of the C6 here. The I could understand what Peter would be on about. As one said, where was this when we WANTED to do this stuff?
