Yugo M24 questions
I finally got to check this one off my list on Saturday. It's been arsenal refinished but not altered to 24/47 specs. Still has original crest and markings. Only serial numbers that match are the barrel and the receiver. BUT, every major part has been stamped with a 3 with the exception of the bolt release which has a 17. Bolt, bolt parts, trigger guard, magazine plate, rear sight, rear sight base, butt plate, front sight, front barrel band and the recoil bolt. Is this common practice with yugo refurbs or is this an indication of another countries arsenal? Rear band, screws, capture screws, stock and handguard are not marked. Ha Turkey as import mark country of origin if that means anything. I wouldn't think they would have something with the pre-war Yugo crest on it.

Cleaning rod came yesterday and of course doesn't fit. Sellers list the 24/47 and M48 rods as being interchangeable but apparently they don't work on the 24 which makes no sense. Unless somewhere along the line a K98 bayonet lug was put on this. Hole is too small. I can't find anything definitive on which size is correct for these.

Ya don't really USE the mauser cleaning rods, besides you need 2 of them to actually clean.
have a feeling youd need to see what fits with a Turkish mauser. most likely ended up in one of their refurb programs.

Mystery solved. It's a K98 bayonet lug. Found the German proof on close inspection this afternoon.

aww shucks bob the troll again.
Last time I checked the mauser cleaning rods were short. And it takes TWO of them to be screwed together to make a cleaning rod of sufficient length.
That is if your smart enough to realize only a moron tries to clean a 20 inch barrel bith a 12 inch cleaning rod...

Awesome rifle, rare to see any M24s not converted to the 24/47 standard.
