    The no 5 has the same recoil as any other rifle of similar calibre and size. It is that hard butt plate and short stock that causes painful memories.

    When I bought mine, it was fitted with a 'S' marked short stock, which I hadn't spotted till after handing over the money......and it was indeed, quite unpleasant to shoot, and awkward. However I was lucky in that I still owned a de-act No.5 and by chance as I put both together some time later, I found they were different lengths, and upon looking at the de-act No.5 discovered it had a 'L' marked long stock.....
    I swapped them over and the 'L' stock made a significant difference to the felt recoil, and the extra LOP made it much more pleasant to shoot as well.

    I saw exactly one of those in all my time and it was floating around loose. It was very light colored too...eventually it was sold after I was done with it as a separate item...
