It's a Churchill AVRE turret, looks like it's been a range target from the damage to it. There was one of these on the hard target range at Robin's Lodge on the Thetford Battle Area in the 1980s, as well as a bunch of Ferrets and an SP gun on a Sherman chassis.

It's a Churchill AVRE turret, looks like it's been a range target from the damage to it. There was one of these on the hard target range at Robin's Lodge on the Thetford Battle Area in the 1980s, as well as a bunch of Ferrets and an SP gun on a Sherman chassis.

The best range period I shot on for hard targets was shortly after "The Wall" came down. We got some actual BMPs and BRDMs to shoot our main armaments at on Hohne Ranges in Germany, courtesy of the recently disbanded Volksarmee.
