    The rifle has the 308 magazine fitted and i think i may already have a replacement extractor. Thanks for the advice.

    But - is it an Enfield magazine or a Stirling magazine ?

    As stated above - it will only eject correctly with the Enfield magazine, the Stirling magazine does not have the built-in ejector and requires an 'accessory' to be mounted on the action.

    This L39 / L42 Parts manual may be of interest.

    Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...
