When did use of wooden wedges start and on NM/Star stamp on barrel between gas cylinder rings should there be finish or bare metal in stamp on original rifles

In part of 1958 SA finally ran low on stocks and glued wood wedges into the recoil shoulders in the magazine well for perfect fit. That became standard for 1959, then was dropped when glass bedding was approved for 1960. Otherwise, Type 1 stocks are, well... stock
Real men measure once and cut.
