Range Day - Strange Day: Episode 2
It's a never-ending stream of oddities and sights that amaze the eyes and brain on range days.
Friday was my RSO duty day at the range and while the normal one or two, too borrow a word or two from my UK
brothers, knobhead is expected. A band of 5 wondrous berks is not, one or a team of two, but 5 is a rarity. Eye protection lacking on all and the youngest without ears to add to the mix,
When shooters on the line turn to you after starring in amazement the show of ignorance down the line and ask, "You guys have our backs, right?" You know its going to be fun. But, indeed my band of brother RSO stood flanking these five watching as each took their turn with a 30 round mag in a Del-Ton Sierra 316 FDE 5.56.
Shooting at 75 yards, if the target at 4 feet above the ground had been an insurgent he would have been safe and sound. Indeed there would be no need to till the soil once the mighty 5 were done for soil is more of what they hit than paper.
I stood in wonder how each could be such a bad shot and finely wandered down the line for a closer look, even though I feared. It was then I noticed the shooter in an "unconventional" off-hand position, taking steady aim though the front sight, just the front sight, for there was no rear.
You have no rear sight on that rifle is exclaimed to it owner, I was greeted with a look of question. You know I said, you won't his S&*T without a rear sight and was told "you're telling me" he replied
Your rifle didn't come with a rear sight? No he replied..
Where did you buy it, Turners for $1000.00
Well, you should go back and ask them for the rear sight I said.
It must be 'O P T I O N A L' he replied...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When home I looked up the rifle and it may indeed be sold without a rear sight, buy why in the heck would you take it to the range (twice) from what I understand, without one? and why didn't anyone advise him to get a rear sight or optic the first time he went out with it?
----
On a High Note:
I did get to meet one of the milsurp members though, out with his two Enfield Snipers. My goodness, they were beautiful. It was nice seeing you there.

If you saw this crew you might have wondered if they 'bought' it at a store at all.
