No.53 Lee Enfield "Sniper" Scope
Spotted this on good old eBay...
The No.53 tube is larger than the No.32 and the reproduction scope mount won't even clamp around it properly. Hence it sits proud and is probably crimping the scope tube if tightened down too tight.
Im guessing the high price is just to buy the tin as the scope and mount don't work together without serious modifications. The scope and mount are not really worth much more than £150.
Lots of these kind of things popping up recently.

Ha Ha!
So that mount and 'scope can are making another appearance! I have attached a thread from a few weeks back regarding these items (although not the No 53).
Looks like after the initial auction was a no-sale, the No32 scope was separated from the mount/scope can, and have come up on ebay. Same mount, same can, but now a No 53 in place of the No32 originally up for auction.

There's something familiar about that No.53 in the original shipping tube. The tube at least is unique, so here are some photos for posterity.

Thanks for the background, interesting to see how its evolved.
Something clearly not right about that No.32 either, also doesnt fit the mount correctly on the rear. Looks like the rear end was grafted from another scope hence the crack all the way around the tube at the start of the eye bell.

Chuck the words ww2 & sniper on anything and it will sell.
Sure the same seller had a long thin holland and holland "sniper" scope in a No.4 mount packed out with something so it fit. Sold for a ton of cash.
Am i the only person who finds these kinds of adverts cringe worthy?

I used to cringe, but nowadays I just cite "caveat emptor". Knowing what you are looking at, researching reference material, and listening to the knowledge on forums such as these, will keep one from regretful purchases. It does hurt to see something like this for sale, knowing its going to wind up on a T, only with no means to adjust windage/elevation!
I have a decent book collection (Skennerton
, Stratton, Laidler
), and use them regularly when looking over a potential purchase.
Amazes me how many folks buy something, THEN conduct research, only to find they've been burned.
Repro scope mount, repro tin, and a decent No53 for parts to rebuild a needy No32. Waaaay overpriced....
