Last poll I saw here, 25% admit to buying more than they usually would. That of course is enough to upset the toilet paper supply chain. I'm still not sure what connection toilet paper has to Coronavirus, unless one plans to use it instead of paper handkerchiefs? Perhaps the satisfaction and sense of security one gets from having am extra case or two the stuff on hand is reason enough?

Probably those who are driving half an hour to get to Costco and reportedly lining up an hour before the place opens, haven't realized they can buy all the ---wipe they could ever want at their nearest janitorial supply company. To say nothing of disinfectants.

Reference the bidet comment above, all jokes aside, one might wonder how many tons of fecal matter are smeared over first world backsides on an annual basis which might be better sent down the sewers with the rest? More than one e-coli infection can be traced to that source I'm told. Besides, most of us don't use our left hands at the dinner table anyway.

And for those of a conspiratorial bent.

My brother in law said it is because everyone standing next to someone who sneezes has an explosive bowel movement in their pants.

    And happy 50th!
And thanks for the real world assessment of our current dilemma. I feel better informed following this thread than
    watching the news all evening.

Thanks. You can’t imagine how glad I am that this thread is somehow helping. We’re between 1 and 3 weeks ahead of the rest of the western world in this bloody situation, but I see that lots of countries are still making our same mistakes, not exploiting the many lessons learned...
Let’s hold on and do our best to get out of it!

Apparently...when the last panic was in China, they were using it to make face masks. They were using everything including sanitary products. So the story goes, then here people forgot that part of the story.

I have always heard the four things to have in a dystopic situation are toilet paper, Jack Daniels, tobacco and ammo not in any particular order.
Barter items I suppose. Lets pray it does not come to that.

You could add a few chickens to the list (live ones).

My family found that during WW2 people will take hen's eggs as "payment in kind", as a "thank-you", as an alternative to cash or if that doesn't work you can give them the entire chicken, dead or alive, which ever they prefer. My father found that he could even "bribe" school teachers with a few hen's eggs, with regards to his school homework or more to the point lack of homework.
