I've had a few different variants of the semi-autos made by Numrich/Auto Ordnance through my shop and found them all to be rough as a cob but functional. Guessing the Kahr Arms variants are much the same but I can't speak from experience. There is a gunsmith in Colorado, (Paul Krogh of Diamond K), who can tune any of them up to near perfect if the need arises. Like Jim, (oh yeah, that's a real piece of junk 1928 with it's original Dulite blue finish Jim!), I have a Savage M1A1made in 1943 that was mailed back in pieces to South Carolina by the Marine who carried it on Iwo Jima. It was turned into the Edgefield Chief of Police and registered during the 1968 amnesty. I traded seven BFI XM15E2S HB carbines, ammo and accessories for it back in 2005 knowing full well that it'd be a bit of a project. I bought a nos cut up Savage M1A1 parts kit at KCR, Kentucky when they were cheap and freshly imported from the UK
who got them out of Russia
. I had the barrel changed as it was trashed from corrosive ammo and no care. I also replaced the pistol grip as the original was broken. It ain't the prettiest M1A1 out there but it's mostly original and all Savage. It runs like a well oiled machine and will stay with me into the forseeable future. Oh yeah, I'm embarrassed to say that it's pictured in the Osprey booklet on the TSMG as done by Martin Pegler. He described it as having been on Guadalcanal which was annoying but fits with his track record of mythological writings in his books and lack of attention to detail! Changing the subject a bit, I see Bruce Canfield is perpetrating mythology too in the April 2020 American Rifleman magazine on page 40 by telling the owner of a Savage No.4 that the first thousand didn't have the "US Property" stamp. Considering we've beat that horse to death here and have seen sn. OC1 which has the mark, I was disappointed. God bless these authors and editors for doing their job but I wish more attention to detail would be observed. Maybe they should have a look over here on Milsurps.com from time to time!
