I tried! It barely darkened it. Must be the type of steel or something.

I suspect you didn't open up the pores of the metal then. You have to get to the base under the rust and oxidation to get blue to work well...many try to just rub it on and it doesn't work.

I cleaned with acetone. I’ll try steel wool this time.
