It is getting nasty here. Instead of backing down quietly, the governor made a massive number of enemies today. He called those that want to return to work "cowards" today and threatened anyone that wanted to conduct business against the "law" would lose their licenses, health certificates and any benefits they might otherwise have. He also suggested that they would lose their insurance. As for the counties themselves, he will withhold all aid and in addition to this, all normal funding. He also told all those that want to hide in their basements (which is where he's been most of this time) that they were the brave ones.
So up is down, evil is good, black is white.
Here are the problems. Those that want to take action despite the threat are not the cowards, those sitting quietly waiting for the next government handout are the new heroes. And there is no LAW that is being broken. His proclamations are not laws at all. Only the legislature can create and pass laws according to our state constitution. He does not have that authority. Nor does he have the authority to withhold funding, that too is the job of the legislature. Law enforcement in these counties is on the side of the county, not the state
Not sure where this is going to go but a lot of people are infuriated over his comments.
It knocks you off your feet when you hear this man's speech. He hasn't taken a question from anyone since this started. Only pre-approved questions and practiced answers.
He had another of these moments a few weeks ago when he was asked if workers who did not return to their jobs would lose their unemployment benefits. His answer was no. Then he went off script and said, you know what the answer is, pay them more. That would amount to a $15 per hour raise to flip burgers at McDonald's. I don't think so.
