    Saginaw Receivers Assistance Request

    Research Assistance
    Saginaw Receivers
    3,249,020 thru 3,651,519
    5,834,619 thru 6,071,188

We are researching changes in receiver features in an attempt to identify when these changes took place. This also helps to reconstruct some of the shuffling around between the two factories. Much of this information has not been previously requested or reported due to the size limitations of a datasheet.

Your assistance with this research would be very much appreciated.

The answers to the questions that follow and/or pictures can be posted here on Milsurps or at this link on The Carbine Collectors Club Forum: Club Assistance Saginaw Receivers - The Carbine Collector's Club
Alternatively, the information and pictures can be e-mailed to the following Club e-mail address:

    SN@USCARBINECAL30.COM

You can also submit a full datasheet. A datasheet can be downloaded and printed from here:

    http://uscarbinecal30.com/forum/uplo...v4__1-1-11.pdf

Please note: if you have previously submitted a datasheet in these serial ranges, we ask that you carefully review the information that we are looking for. We will then update the datasheet on file with any new or missing information.

For your convenience: at the bottom of this post is something to help you submit your answers. Simply copy and paste that information into your e-mail or forum post to respond and fill in the information as you read through the questions.

    Question #1:

What is the full serial number?

(If you must provide a partial please use two lower case x's for the last two digits. Example: 3250020 would be 32500xx.)

    Question #2:
Above the serial number are the letters S and G. What are the characters following each letter if any?

    S.G. S'G' or simply SG

    Attachment 108740

    Question #3:

Which of the following markings are on the receiver ring?

    CAL. .30 Ml
(period after CAL and another preceding 30, Ml font is Sans Serif)

    Attachment 108741

CAL. 30 M1icon (Sans Serif Ml)
(period after CAL, no period preceding 30, Ml font is Sans Serif, period following Ml)

    Attachment 108742

    CAL. 30 M1 (Serif M1)
(period after CAL, no period preceding 30, M1 font is Serif)

    Attachment 108743

    Other?
    (please send photo if other)

    Question #4:

Rear Tang: is it Wide (left) or Narrow (right)

    Attachment 108744

    Question #5:

At the rear of the left side of the receiver there may be a feature unique to Saginaw we refer to as an "ear" (left & center below).

Does your receiver have a rounded ear (left), squared ear (center), or no ear (right)?

    Attachment 108745

    Question #6:

There may or may not be letters and/or numbers on the left side of the receiver. If present what are they and where?
If the Left side has SG is it 1/4" or 1/8" tall?

Examples include SI or SG. There may or may not be an additional letter and/or number near the middle of the left side. Please indicate all that are present

    Attachment 108746

    Question #7:

If there any markings on the front of the bottom of the receiver, what are they and where?

If present they are usually on or around the trigger housing lug. Examples below are T (left) and G (right)

    Attachment 108739

    Question #8:

What is the name of the barrel manufacturer and the date, if present?

EXTRA: You can submit datasheets for Saginaw receivers outside of this range as well as for any make carbine.

It'll be incomplete if they don't note if the SG is small or large letters on the side of the receiver. IMO.
My sig: Consider adding IP/S'G's to my registry. I've found 3 sets of consecutives & WILL immediately inform you of one if you won't cut my throat like someone else did, I do it to help us both. https://grandrapids.wufoo.com/forms/zzlnt0519k86xs/

tenOC, What is the size difference between the large and small SGs? If I only have one that is marked SG on the left how do I know whether it is large or small?

Saginaw plant used the large 3/16 letters first and then went to the smaller 2/16. There are also Saginaw plant receivers with no letters.
the change in size of letters took place in the 3,340,xxx to the 3,458,xxx range. That can probably be narrowed down further.
The information can be added to the survey question #6 response. It is better to have the information rather to have to look for it.

Good point. We need a pic too. Maybe it's covered enough in previous letters. You guys know them better than I.
