Line Material Company, Birmingham, Alabama. My personal theory is that the R stands for Rifle. Their contract was initially for Carbine barrels but was changed to M1icon Rifle before any were made. I theorize that their code would have been LMC but became LMR after the contract was changed. It is pure speculation on my part. They were absorbed into the Power Systems Division of McGraw Edison.

I thought it meant Love My Rifle

Walter David Ehlers (May 7, 1921 – February 20, 2014) was a United Statesicon Army soldier and a recipient of the US armed forces' highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions in World War II.

There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.

Line Materials also had a plant in Zanesville, OH ( home of the Y bridge ). It was a McGraw Edison transformer plant when I visited it in the late '70s.
